Media

We collaborate with a variety of media outlets in Slovakia and abroad to create unique projects that offer fresh perspectives and innovative approaches to journalism.

OUR PROJECTS

Slovakia is not a country for the weak

Collaboration with the daily newspaper Korzár, 2025

This media series took a detailed look at groups of people in Slovakia who are 'pulling the shorter end of the rope'. The articles told the stories of disadvantaged individuals, carers, and people from marginalised communities who face systemic barriers and discrimination. These powerful human stories illustrated systemic problems in Slovak society and gave a voice to those who are often overlooked.

Our migration

Collaboration with the daily newspaper SME, 2023

A sociological-journalistic special that turns attention to the overlooked topic of Slovak migration and its true dimensions. The project is based on an extensive survey of more than 600 Slovaks living abroad, whose authentic stories reveal diverse motivations for leaving – from economic reasons to professional and personal ones. The media content combines analytical texts, interviews with experts and interactive processing of personal testimonies from migrants. The special offers a unique perspective on a phenomenon that has been shaping our society for decades, but which often lacks reflection contributing to understanding of society-wide trends.

Climate is changing the world

Collaboration with the news website Aktuality.sk, 2022

A media special that gives space to young climate activists from five continents. Through the personal stories of a 14-year-old Scot fighting to protect sharks, a young Mexican woman from an indigenous community, an Indian activist from a farming family, and the world's youngest climate activist, it reveals the diverse forms of the climate crisis. The project breaks the stereotype that climate activism is the preserve of the Western world and shows how young people are finding innovative ways to fight for the future of their communities despite the lack of understanding from politicians, climate skeptics, and sometimes even their own peers.

War through their eyes

Collaboration with the daily newspaper SME, 2022

A media special that overturns the established Western perspective on the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The project brings authentic testimonies and analyses from journalists from different parts of the world – Costa Rica, Thailand, Uganda, and Tajikistan – who reveal the surprising and often contradictory attitudes of their countries towards the war. The texts reveal the complexity of global relations, the influence of colonial heritage, and the role of Russian propaganda in different regions of the world. Through specific stories and local contexts, the project shows that the world is not divided into clear-cut camps, as it might appear from a European perspective. The series reveals how historical experiences with colonialism, economic ties to superpowers, and local authoritarian regimes shape the attitudes of countries in the Global South toward the European conflict.

A Different World

Collaboration with the daily newspaper SME, 2017

A series of reports and travel articles reveals lesser-known places and stories of people from distant countries, as well as current global issues. The project is the result of collaboration between young journalists and journalism students interested in global issues and social justice. "Svet inak" (A Different World) gives a voice to those who are rarely heard in everyday media discourse.

Christmas in the Mud

Collaboration with the daily newspaper HN, 2017

A media special focused on climate change and its effects on Slovak winters. The project examines how the old saying "Katarína na ľade – Vianoce na blate" (Katarína on ice – Christmas in the mud) is gradually coming true and how our traditional perception of winter holidays is changing. Through articles on climate change and its specific consequences for everyday life, it brings scientific knowledge to the general public. The special is part of a long-term effort to bring important global issues to the Slovak media.

Happy and consumptive

Collaboration with the daily newspaper SME, 2015

An interactive multimedia project that reveals the stories and true cost of everyday items that often end up under the Christmas tree. It follows the journey of a mobile phone, T-shirt, or chocolate bar from their creation to consumers' homes, revealing to readers the hidden connections of global trade and production. The project addresses the ethical and environmental issues of consumerism at a time when the shopping frenzy is at its peak.
