About us

Since 2015, Svet Medzi Riadkami (The World Between the Lines) has been bridging the gap between academia and practical journalism. We create educational materials, organise workshops and teach courses in which we educate students to recognise and oppose unethical practices in newsrooms. We demonstrate how to withstand pressure from political or economic interests while remaining faithful to the public interest.

OUR MISSION

At a time when journalistic integrity is under pressure from economic and political interests, we work to strengthen it. We create a media space in which marginalised voices can be heard. We teach future journalists how to professionally and ethically cover complex social issues, such as climate change, migration and discrimination against minorities. We also build bridges between journalism departments, newsrooms and journalism initiatives in the V4 region.

Our Team

Stanka Luppova

Editor and Festival Manager

Stanka is the co-founder of the Svet medzi riadkami (World Between the Lines) initiative, where she works as a senior editor and project coordinator. She has over 15 years' experience in journalism, having worked for media outlets such as Hospodárske noviny and Aktuálne.sk. She coordinates media specials focusing on underreported topics and communities. She is also the programme manager of the V4 Journalism Festival for young journalists from Central Europe. She also teaches the use of artificial intelligence in journalism.

Peter Ivanič

Programme Manager and Lecturer

Founding member of the World Between the Lines initiative and an expert in global journalism, media analysis and media sociology. He lectures on these subjects at the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Philosophy, Comenius University in Bratislava. At Svet medzi riadkami, he manages an educational and research programme for journalists and the media. He is the co-author of several publications on the media's coverage of minorities and migration and acts as a facilitator for international journalism training courses.

Viki Novotňáková

Event Manager and Web Editor

Viki is a student at the Department of Journalism at Comenius University in Bratislava. Her interests include healthcare, politics and the social situation in Slovakia. She organises student discussions under the 'Off Record' brand. As part of the collaboration between Svet medzi riadkami and HN, she oversees the HN Globálne section. She previously worked at Radio Košice, writing for the Košice online portal. In her free time, she enjoys reading popular science literature, listening to radio plays and spending time in nature.

Saša Matoľáková

Co-organiser of the festival and journalist

Saša is a journalism student at Comenius University in Bratislava and has also studied at the University of Galway in Ireland. She helps organise the journalism festival together with the team at Svet medzi riadkami (The World Between the Lines). She completed a short-term internship at the weekly magazine .týždeň. Her particular interests include feminism, gender equality, human rights protection and mental health. As a journalist, she aims to give a voice to the voiceless and effect positive change.

Alex Turoňová

Co-organiser of the festival and journalist

Alex is a journalism student at Comenius University in Bratislava. Her interests include global challenges, human rights issues, marginalised communities and education. As part of her collaboration with Svet medzi riadkami and HN, she contributed to the HN Globálne section. She loves feeling dewdrops on her feet; her smile reflects her Liptov roots. She works in a nursery school and lives by children's philosophy. She stands up for justice and has a passion for art and yoga.

Petra Sochorová

Co-organiser of the festival and journalist

Petra is a journalism student at Comenius University in Bratislava. As part of the collaboration between the Svet medzi riadkami (World Between the Lines) project and HN, she completed an internship at the editorial office, contributing to the HN Globálne (HN Global) section. She is also actively involved in organising the Svet medzi riadkami journalism festival. Her interests include education and gender equality. In her free time, she enjoys sports, music and travelling.

Tamás Csanda

festival co-organizer, moderator

Journalism student at the Department of Journalism of Comenius University in Bratislava. Former chairman of the student government of the Hungarian College in Bratislava, founder of youth initiatives, including the Youth Parliament of the city of Nové Zámky. He works as a news presenter on Nové Zámky Television; he presents live interviews in the series of discussion events mi/y: parallel bubbles. He likes to connect ideas, breathes in communities, lives with a passion for culture.

William Gevorg Urban

photographer, filmmaker

Photographer, filmmaker, podcast host and freelancer based in Bratislava. He uses his platforms to present different perspectives on creativity and everyday life, with the long-term goal of inspiring other creators and building a community of like-minded people. He has worked in companies such as Heneken and TV JOJ in marketing and news and media departments. He studied media design at the Pan-European University and continues at the Department of Journalism at Comenius University. He is a member of the production team of Euractiv Slovakia and the organizer of the Streetaiz photography community. He started photography and video in 2021.
