THE WORLD BETWEEN THE LINES

We are an educational and media initiative that promotes ethical journalism through teaching, research and collaboration with media outlets.

We bridge the gap between academia and real-world journalism. We deliver university courses and workshops at four Slovak journalism departments and in newsrooms. Our areas of focus include media ethics, media discourse analysis, multimedia storytelling, and identifying unethical practices within the media landscape. We are dedicated to global journalism and to the ethical portrayal of vulnerable groups. We also educate people about complex global and social issues, such as climate change and migration.

EDUCATION

We put ethical journalism into practice. We deliver lectures at Slovak universities, run workshops for newsrooms and operate an e-learning portal that provides current and future journalists with the tools they need to cover complex topics ethically and professionally.

MEDIA CREATION

We create media content that gives a voice to the underprivileged. Our data- and research-based articles, analyses and podcasts are published by renowned Slovak media outlets. We tell stories that would otherwise remain untold.

JOURNALISM FESTIVAL

We are building a network of responsible journalists. We organise an international journalism festival and networking events that bring together students, aspiring journalists and experienced professionals from the V4 region, while promoting ethical standards in the media.

LISTEN TO OUR PODCAST

In The World Between the Lines, we give a voice to the most vulnerable members of our society. We explore topics such as discrimination against minorities, social inequality and climate justice. By opening up conversations with experts and activists, we challenge established stereotypes and change perspectives.

OUR ONLINE COURSES

We educate journalists and the public via our e-learning platform. We provide interactive courses that focus on working with information and global issues. We make climate change, migration, poverty and gender equality more accessible to journalists and the public. Our goal is to help media professionals to understand these complex challenges and communicate them to the public clearly and responsibly.

"There was an 'aha' moment with every topic we covered. Whether it was migration, poverty or gender equality, I always learned something that completely transformed my view. This course offers a fresh perspective on issues you thought you understood."

— Journalism student, Bratislava, Global Challenges course

"I learned to recognise the effect of the information bubble. I hadn't really thought about it before, and I often wondered where people with different opinions came from. The course opens your eyes. Everyone who wants to do good journalism needs that."

— Journalism student, Nitra, Media and Information Literacy course

"I thought about topics I knew about before, but I had no one to discuss them with. This course has been the most valuable thing in my entire university career. I learned a lot and expanded my knowledge — and that's exactly what it's all about."

— Journalism student, Bratislava, Global Development Journalism
